Given the racial and social injustice, inequity and tension around us, I will not be complicit and be a bystander. I am doing what I can to make a difference in my community. I believe it will take people of all colors - everyone working together and taking action to make meaningful systemic changes that break down inequity and provide opportunity for all. This journey towards change is not a sprint, it's a marathon. Join us and take action, one step at a time. A journey of 1000 miles begins with one step. Our collective action will make the future better for all people!
I want to learn, listen and have uncomfortable conversations. I want to be a role model for my children. I want to inspire others to take action. C.A.R.E. gives me the opportunity to educate myself, exchange ideas and thoughts in a safe space and gives me the chance to take action in a meaningful way.
There are two quotes from Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. that inspired me to do equity work.
1. “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”
2. “The time is always right to do what is right.”
I realized I could no longer sit on the sidelines and just hope for change. I had to actively be a change agent and joining forces with other change agents is “right” for me. C.A.R.E. is doing work that aligns with my form of social justice. I am working to do my part to make the world a place where people are respected for who they are and not what they look like.
Over the years I have met some amazing people that have shattered any prejudice I have for those in the black community. We all need to work together towards racial equality/equity to make things better for everyone, and to create opportunities where more of us can achieve success.
I want to help effect change where the current systems in place hinder the ability to achieve equity for ALL.
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” - Benjamin Franklin
I joined this diverse group to learn more about furthering equity in our community. I have been given both education and opportunity to do so.
At C.A.R.E. we are driven by a vision of the future where communities and classrooms are culturally inclusive, offering opportunities and support to all, regardless of race, creed, or social status.
We believe all people are valuable and should be treated with dignity and respect and are deserving of opportunities. We believe all institutions should represent all people and provide for the well-being of everyone they serve.
Our mission is to promote racial equity in education, policing and housing while advocating for the inclusion of all people and addressing the opportunity gap.
